Not long after getting a release date, we’ve learned a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 live-action film is now in production.

The new film has entered early production (via Variety) before the game launches, which is now launching on April 24th for PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Xbox Game Pass.

Sandfall Interactive, the developer behind the game, has teamed up with Story Kitchen to produce a film version of the game.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sandfall Interactive to bring the rich, immersive world of ‘Expedition 33’ to the big screen,” said Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson & Mike Goldberg. “The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike.”

Sandfall Interactive CEO and Clair Obscur creative director Guillaume Broche added, “Partnering with Story Kitchen allows us to expand the universe of ‘Clair Obscur’ beyond the gaming realm. Their expertise in storytelling and passion for our vision make them the perfect team to translate our game into a captivating film.”

While details on the live-action film are scant, it’ll naturally feature the characters, story, and world of the game – a fantasy world inspired by Belle Époque France. The main heroes are tasked with confronting the Paintress, a villain that can make everyone of a certain age disappear.

Casting for the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 live-action film is now underway with Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval producing for Story Kitchen.
