JP Games, the new company formed by ex-Square Enix boss Hajime Tabata, has had development on their new game Project JEWEL halted over a new dispute.
The game, originally revealed as the tentatively titled “SHALLAH,” was in development under Quantum Solutions with funding from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment. Now the game is on ice over reported missed development milestones.
Not much is known about Project JEWEL save the fact that it was touted as a AAA role-playing game, with a story of magic and love between a man and a goddess. The game is set in a world based on Middle Eastern folktales from One Thousand and One Nights.
Quantum Solutions is claiming (via Gamebiz) that a recent demo for the game was submitted after the game’s name had been changed. However, co-developer Quantum Solutions found the demo “needed to be better adapted to market needs,” and proposed to JP Games that the demo be updated and improved.
After not receiving a response from JP games for a work week, Quantum Solutions made the decision to temporarily suspend development on Project JEWEL. They were quick to note that the game being put on hold will not affect their consolidated financial results for the fiscal year, which ends in February 2026.
While Project JEWEL is now on hold, Quantum Solutions is promoting several other projects that require less investment and are expected to be “more profitable than AAA games.” They also do not expect to have the halted development of Project JEWEL on their financial results, which falls under their AI gaming business column.
