Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino

Co-publishers Yokaze and room6 and developer Rias shared a new trailer for Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino, their folklorish action-adventure game.

The new trailer shows off Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino, originally known as Fox and Frog Travelers: The Demon of Adashino Island, years since its last announcement.

Here’s a rundown on the game, plus the new trailer:

“Where will their light lead them?” Kitsune is a fox girl who finds herself on Adashino Island and starts travelling with her Frog friend. Neon signs give light and color to the island with a Japanese-inspired atmosphere. Something is lurking in the shadows, inching ever closer…

The Story

One day, a fox girl and her frog friend find themselves on a mysterious island shrouded by darkness but for a few floating lights.
Torii gates, food stall lanterns, and neon signs give light and color to the island. Something is lurking in the shadows, inching ever closer…

 The Game

Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino is a 3D action/adventure game focused on the exploration of a mysterious island inspired by Japanese folklore. Kitsune, the titular fox girl, will have to go through exploration sequences and escape sequences where she is being chased by enemies.

In the exploration sequences, you will travel through the island, conversing with its inhabitants and kindling lights within shrines to reach new areas.

During the escape sequences, you will need to outrun the oni demons chasing after you. Kitsune can use light to temporarily blind these monsters, giving her enough time to find safe routes and hiding places. However, the number of times she can use this light is limited, and she has to recharge it at shrines.

Her light also allows her to banish darkness, find hidden paths, and run into more people to talk with.

Looming in the distance is the Tower of Muyo, shining bewitchingly with the lure of myriad stolen lights. This is the tale of a long summer night, the night of the Jugoya harvest festival…

Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino is in development for Windows PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch with a release set for 2025.
