Strife is Back, on Steam - Niche Gamer

Strife is Back, on Steam

the original strife veteran edition quest for the sigil

The Original Strife was released as Strife: Quest for the Sigil all the way back in 1996, and it was one of the first ever FPS RPGs. Now, an updated version of the Doom-engine game is available on Steam.

In Strife, cyborgs have taken over the world and seek to forcefully convert humans into their ranks. Players assume the role of a(n entirely) human rebel, and must collect the pieces of an artifact, the Sigil, in order to take down The Order, the religious group that leads the cyborgs in their genocide of humanity. In order to accomplish this, players shoot a lot of things along the way.

The new features included with the Steam release are:

  • widescreen support;
  • support for high resolutions;
  • dynamic lighting and bloom;
  • the ability to freely rebind keys;
  • Steam achievements; and
  • Steam trading cards.

The Veteran’s Edition also completes unfinished or missing content from the original game, including the originally planned “Capture the Chalice” multiplayer mode, marking current objectives on the auto-map, and the special HUD for the Torpedo weapon.

You can get The Original Strife: Veteran’s Edition over here.
